Rhys Shurey.
Content Designer, Storytelling Consultant & Facilitator
Berlin
For over 20 years, Rhys has been a stand for the transformative power storytelling.

Rhys embodies the power of story. A narrative desinger and former lecturer at international universities across Europe, there are few more capable than Rhys at getting to the heart of what makes us tick, what motivates and disempowers us, and how to frame these facets, these stories, so that they build our momentum for change, rather than hampering it.

Rhys has been telling stories since she was old enough to talk, and doing transformational work just as long. She was raised in a household of educators and transformation veterans, completing her first transformational course at 11, reviewing these lessons at 21, and completing an advanced course by 23. Being raised with a Steiner education since kindergarten, Rhys simultaneously developed strong interpersonal skills and capacities for empathy, becoming expert at the art of really listening. Between the two, transformational work from one direction and the listening with the whole self from the other, the same throughline runs all the way back: a commitment to transformation, a capacity for extraordinary understanding of the stories people tell themselves, the willingness to speak truth to power when it matters most.

Now 29, Rhys has had a long and storied journey with narrative. She published her first novel at 18, was a lecturer at Maastricht University, is a BKO accredited educator, and spent time as a PhD researcher at TU Berlin, specialising in digital media and communications. She works currently a a narrative consultant, helping businesses, creatives and organisations to enhance and polish their storytelling capacities; how they present themselves, what mediums and tools they use to get their intended narratives across, and how they talk about their own goals and their future to empower productivity, collaboration and sustainable growth. Across all of these worlds: fiction writing, academia, digital media and narrative consulting, the throughline has stayed constant. What makes a story land is truth. Listening for, and speaking to emotionally felt, experientially embodied truth. Once you really hear the elephant in the room, really discern its shape, and really sit with how you’d like things to be different, anything becomes possible.

What distinguishes Rhys is the balance she strikes: analytic structure, emotional warmth, and a gentle yet firm assertiveness, held together at once. She listens fully to the needs and fears in the room, and she isn't afraid to name a disempowering narrative and reframe it into something that opens possibility, instead of closing it down. Most importantly, she doesn't just stop at doing this for her clients. She teaches them how to do it for themselves, so the shift outlasts the room, so that the seeds planted blossom on their own.

She works in English and German.

When she's not working, you'll find Rhys designing games, meeting friends, painting, cooking, writing poetry, dancing, lost in a film or a video game, or out organising in her community. Story, for Rhys, was never just a tool for the workshop room. It's how she moves through the world.
That's Rhys.
